Revitalize Your Skin with Microneedling

Microneedling is a type of Collagen Induction Therapy, also known as CIT. It’s a cosmetic skin needling procedure that promotes and accelerates natural skin regeneration and rejuvenation.  This skin needling process creates thousands of small injuries that awaken the skin’s natural post-traumatic skin healing process. It is mostly done on the face, neck and chest, but can be done on other parts of the body too.

Benefits of Microneedling:

  • Encourages collagen and elastin production;

  • Improves anti-aging, like fine lines, wrinkles and crows’ feet around the eyes;

  • Improves dark spots and hyperpigmentation;

  • Improves skin tone and texture;

  • Minimizes pore size;

  • Improves stretch marks, acne and surgical and chickenpox scarring;

  • Improves sagging skin;

  • Improves dry and dull-looking skin.

  • You can safely book your microneedling treatments every 4 to 6 weeks until you get the results you want. If your goal is scar reduction, you’ll likely need 3 to 6 treatments. For collagen induction, 3 treatments is a good starting point.

  • Individuals with wrinkles, fine lines, crows’ feet, hyperpigmentation, spots, acne scarring, post-surgical scarring, chicken pox scarring, sagging skin, skin dullness, rough and uneven texture, lack of skin radiance, loss of elasticity and epidermal thickness.

  • Individuals with the following conditions should not have microneedling:

    Rosacea, eczema and psoriasis, bruised skin, cold sores, active pustular acne, active bacterial, viral or fungal infections, raised moles or warts, broken capillaries, keloid or raised scars, raised moles or warts, actinic (solar) keratosis, diabetics, immunosuppression, individuals taking blood pressure, blood thinning or heart medications, antidepressants, chemotherapy or any type of medication that can cause photosensitivity and skin side effects, individuals undergoing cosmetic treatments like cosmetic surgery, Botox, filler injections, laser, microblading, fibroblast plasma treatment and Platelet Rich Plasma facial, Intense Pulsed Light, facial threading, individuals who have had cosmetic facial surgery in the past 6 months, or Accutane medication in the past 6 months.

  • After completing a microneedling treatment, most clients are red. Some are mildly red others very red. It looks and feels like a bad sunburn. The skin may feel warm, tight, dry and itchy. In some cases, there may also be slight swelling. This is part of the inflammatory effect of the skin. There can also be pinpoint bleeding and/or some bruising. This is normal. The effects may last up to 3 days.

  • To reduce visible redness, you can use a Hylauronic Acid..  Be sure to moisturize with aftercare products as directed.

  • On the third day after the treatment, you may notice some peeling, that is the appearance of old dead skin cells and is normal. Do not exfoliate at this point. Within several days or weeks, you will notice a smoother, more radiant appearance.

  • On the day of the treatment, stay out of the sun completely. Don’t use any sunscreen because there might be toxins in the lotions that can be harmful. Remember the skin is ‘open’ due to the microchannels punctured in the skin. Preferably stay out of the sun the next 2 days too, but if you can’t it is now safe to use an SPF30+ because the microchannels have closed.

  • You’ll be provided with an aftercare protocol that will specify when you can start reintroducing your normal skincare. In general you can return to your normal skincare regimen after 72 hours.

  • In general, no. But to ensure comfort, Erin will apply a numbing cream to the area to be microneedled for 20 minutes prior to the start of your procedure.

  • We schedule Microneedling sessions for 45 minutes. If you choose to microneedle with PRP, we will schedule the session for 60 minutes.

  • No.  Your skin will be cleansed and prepped as part of your appointment.

  • Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure, with a low risk of complications.  However, even if it remains relatively intact, the epidermis is indeed disrupted, and this may predispose to cutaneous infections.  When Erin completes your procedure, your skin will be cleansed and prepped with 90% isopropyl alcohol.  The microneedle cartridge is sterile. Sterile gloves will be doned and othe procedure will be performed in as sterile a manner as possible.

  • Microneedling, though safe, does still involve pricking your skin and creating small injuries, so you will want to do what you can to avoid infection. Keeping the treated area clean and following your prescribed post procedure protocol will greatly decrease the opportunity for infection.
